Discipleship Starts in the Domestic Church

Family Life Office Reorganization and Changes - In an effort to make the diocesan offices more efficient, Bishop Conley has decided to reorganize the curia beginning in June 2015.  The Family Life Office, the Office for Youth & Young Adult Ministry, the Office for Evangelization, and the Stewardship Office will operate as individual entities with their own budgets, planning, etc.  Last month we said goodbye to Nick Jorgensen as he left the diocese to take a job with the Archdiocese of Detroit.  We are grateful for his service during the past two years and are sad to see him go.  I am sure that he will do great things in Detroit.  Fr. Heaslip will take over Evangelization and Catechesis; and Jeff Schinstock will serve as director of Youth & Young Adult Ministry.  Our offices will work closely with one another in order to assist pastors in creating and implementing a pastoral plan to help form intentional disciples in our parishes and within the Domestic Church.  The Stewardship Office will play a key role in integrating and communicating these opportunities for growth.

Catholic Divorce Survival Guide (CDSG) - We just finished our sixth round of the CDSG program at John XXIII Diocesan Center in Lincoln.  This 12-week program provides an opportunity for those who have suffered divorce, abandonment, and betrayal to work through some of the pain they have experienced and gives direction for them to get back on their feet after divorce.  As we look forward to the diocesan “mobile tribunal” initiative, which is part of the New Evangelization portion of the Joy of the Gospel campaign, this program can be an invaluable means to reaching out to those who feel shame, grief, and distance from the Church as a result of divorce.  Many of the people who attended the first round followed up by attending the Unbound retreat.  One woman told me that CDSG helped her to realize that she had a lot of “stuff” to deal with and Unbound taught her what to do with it.  At a local level, the path to healing for divorced and faithful Catholics might look like attending a CDSG, then Unbound, then some other parish evangelization program like Light of the World or the Alpha program for parishes that are interested in it.  If you are interested in launching this program in your parish or deanery, contact Fr Sean Kilcawley at (402) 473-0620.
