WAVERLY (SNR) - All men are invited to have a personal encounter with Christ as they discover him in the gospels Dec. 13-15, on a men’s “Spiritual Exercises” retreat with Regnum Christi and Father Matthew Summe, LC at Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly.
The weekend retreat is based on the classic Spiritual Exercises developed by St. Ignatius of Loyola. Retreatants meditate on the principal truths of the Christian faith with a special emphasis on following and imitating Christ.
The preached Spiritual Exercises will be given by a priest of the Legionaries of Christ, Father Matthew Summe, and includes Mass, rosary, confessions, adoration, silence, meditation and spiritual direction with Father Gary Coulter, director of the retreat house.
Regnum Christi, the “Kingdom of Christ,” is an apostolic movement of passionate Catholics from all walks of life who impact the world by building Christ’s Kingdom on earth. Members commit to live out their baptismal call to holiness and to engage in apostolic action, desiring to change the world through works of evangelization.
Jeff Garrett of Omaha will present an optional “Formation Day” before the retreat Friday, Dec. 13, on the topic of leadership. With his business consulting background, he will encourage men to be leaders in their families and parishes. Garrett is the driving force behind “The Regular Catholic Guy,” a weekly blog and podcast designed—obviously—for “regular” Catholic guys.
The entire event starts with a dinner-social Thursday before the Friday formation day-conference. There is a social at 6 p.m. Friday for all participants, and the preached retreat starts 7 p.m. Friday and finishes with 12:30 p.m. lunch on Sunday.
The men’s retreat is open to Regnum Christi members and to all men who may be interested in the topic or learning more about Regnum Christi.
