DAVID CITY (SNR) – Seniors at Aquinas High School in David City delivered personal biographies to a select group of residents at St. Joseph’s Villa and Court in David City Dec. 5.
This annual project began almost 20 years ago, as part of Mrs. Theresa Pokorny’s English IV class, to expand students writing experience and connect with the elderly in their community.
Inspired by Mitch Alborn’s book, “Tuesdays with Morrie,” 35 seniors began interviewing their assigned residents in September. They continued to visit their residents three times a month for corrections or additions. Final biographies were delivered Dec. 5, and many residents said they planned to give their biographies to their families for Christmas.
The Alborn book advises, “Devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning.”
The seniors from Aquinas will continue to visit St. Joseph’s Villa and Court once a month during the second semester.
