YORK (SNR) – Msgr. James M. Reinert, pastor of St. Joseph Parish in York since 2010, died Jan. 21 after battling cancer for seven months. He was 62.

Born in Kansas, Msgr. Reinert attended St. Joseph School in Beatrice, Neb., and graduated from Beatrice High School in 1975. He entered seminary formation in 1977 and was ordained in 1983, later earning a doctorate in education administration from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Msgr. Reinert served in a variety of pastoral roles, beginning as assistant pastor at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln and theology teacher at Pius X High School. In the course of his priesthood, Msgr. Reinert served as pastor, teacher, a local and diocesan-level school administrator, director of Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House, and in the papal delegation to the United Nations. He served the people of God in Lincoln, Falls City, McCook, Syracuse, Rulo, Hastings, McCool Junction, and York.

Msgr. Reinert is survived by his mother Lorene, brothers Nick, Joe, George, John, and Gerard, and by nine nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Vincent, brother Robert, and sister Jeanne Fox.

Bishop Fabian W. Bruskewitz, bishop emeritus, celebrated a funeral Mass Jan. 25 in St. Joseph Church. Msgr. John Perkinton was homilist and priests of the Diocese of Lincoln concelebrated.

Burial followed at St. Joseph Cemetery. Metz Mortuary was in care of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic School in York.
