Saturday reflection with Fr. Timothy Gallagher May 9
WAVERLY (SNR) – Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House will present a one-day, online retreat with renowned author and speaker Father Timothy Gallagher, O.M.V., Saturday, May 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“All of us experience ups and downs in the spiritual life, times of energy and times of discouragement,” said Father Gary Coulter, director of the retreat house. “This retreat will help you understand this experience, equipping you to find your way through times of discouragement, and to grow solidly toward God in daily living. Learn to live the daily discerning life.”
The retreat is based on letters of spiritual direction written by Venerable Bruno Lanteri, founder of Father Gallagher’s religious order, the Oblates of the Virgin Mary. The advice in the letters apply for men and women all states of life as Ven. Lanteri shares the power of hope, the importance of prayer and the promise of God’s mercy. His message continues to offer that same hope today, to confidently turn to God despite sins, fears or spiritual failings.
Father Gallagher published his most recent book of the same topic, “Overcoming Spiritual Discouragement: The Wisdom and Spiritual Power of Venerable Bruno Lanteri.” Father Coulter said the retreat will help participants learn practical ways to find peace amid spiritual struggles and patience in the face of intense trials.
“Moreover,” he encouraged those considering the retreat, “learn to profit spiritually from the afflictions that beset you, by knowing how to recognize the enemy and reject his wiles.”
Online retreatants will share in four talks with Father Gallagher, including time for questions and answers. Those registering will receive a handout of quotes and reflection questions, and there will be a live-stream Mass by Father Coulter. Registration is required to participate in the live-stream, and a free-will donation is asked but not required.
The retreat house is also planning two other online days of reflection with local priests. They will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and are open to men and women. Father James Morin will present “Prayer for the Bored, Distracted, and Anxious” Saturday, May 16. Father Evan Winter will present “A Quarantine Retreat with the Book of Job (bilingual Retiro con el Libro de Job)” Saturday, May 30.
