Award is for top Council in Nebraska

LINCOLN (SNR) - In recognition for excellence and achievement, the Knights of Columbus Council #10913 of St. Michael Parish in Lincoln received the 2021 Inter-Council Competition (ICC) Belt May 22.

Winning the ICC belt is based upon the many different outreaches and ministries undertaken by the Knights of Columbus councils during the previous fraternal year.

The award, given annually, is bestowed upon the top Knights of Columbus Council in the state of Nebraska. In all 93 counties in Nebraska, more than 26,000 member Knights comprise 169 Knights councils.

The different categories of Knights’ outreach include vocations, pro-life, faith, family, Catholic education, ongoing projects, intellectual disabilities and community and youth activities.

The St. Michael Knights Council won state awards in many of these categories in 2021.

The ICC belt was awarded at Mass at St. Michael parish May 22. State and St. Michael Knight members of the 4th degree provided an honor guard for the vigil Mass of Pentecost. During the Mass, St. Michael pastor Father Kenneth Borowiak preached about the works of the Knights of Columbus and how the outreaches and ministries are examples of the working of the Spirit in the Church and in the world today.

“The work of the Knights is the fulfilment of Jesus’ invitation in Matthew chapter 28, ‘Go therefore and teach all nations,’ as well as Matthew chapter 25 where the Lord challenges His listeners to help those in need,” Father Borowiak said.

St. Michael Grand Knight Dan Mickells spoke about receiving the award.

“It is incredibly humbling for our council to be selected as the ICC Champions for the 2020-2021 fraternal year,” he said. “We don’t do this for the awards or the recognition, however, it provides St. Michael a wonderful platform to share the great news with the other councils in the state on the work that we are doing in the way of ‘Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism.’

“Hopefully, in some way, it may encourage others to get involved and build upon this work,” he added.

State Deputy Mark Borytsky presented the ICC belt to Mickells.

“It was a great honor to be at St. Michael Parish to receive the Eucharist and present the Inter-Council Championship to council 10913,” Borytsky said. “Congratulations to all St. Michael knights for their efforts to better their council, our Church and country,” he added. “On behalf of a grateful state, thank you.”
