Sept. 24-26 with Msgr. Mark Huber

WAVERLY (SNR) – Msgr. Mark Huber will lead a retreat at Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly Sept. 24-26: “Following the Footsteps of St. Joseph.”

The retreat is for men and women of all ages who want to increase their devotion to St. Joseph, and celebrate the Year of St. Joseph by imitating his selfless devotion, listening, obedience and humility.

The “Year of St. Joseph” continues until Dec. 8, 2021. In his apostolic letter, Patris Corde, Pope Francis explains that the aim of this special year is “to increase our love for this great saint, to encourage us to implore his intercession and to imitate his virtues and his zeal.”

The pope describes St. Joseph as: beloved, tender, loving, obedient, accepting, creatively courageous, hard-working, and most important: a father.

Msgr. Mark Huber, pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Beaver Crossing and St. Patrick in Utica, said he hopes to connect Catholics with their “spiritual father.”

“Sometimes we struggle to know and imitate St. Joseph,” he said. “This is a chance to grow in prayer and friendship with him, who is a patron to every one of us.”

Joseph is the patron saint of the Universal Church, families, fathers, expectant mothers, travelers, immigrants, craftsmen, engineers and working people, among others. He is also patron of the dying, who pray to die in the arms of Jesus and Mary.

Ordained a priest in 1994, until recently Msgr. Mark Huber served for many years as chancellor, judicial vicar and then vicar general for the Diocese of Lincoln. He was pastor of St. Mary Parish in Denton.

Retreats at Good Counsel Retreat House are held in person with social distancing, and online with livestream and recordings. Weekend retreats begin with a rosary and Mass at 8 p.m. Friday and end with Mass and noon lunch on Sunday.

Other upcoming retreats for men or women include “Work of the Holy Angels” Sept. 16-19, a Eucharistic retreat Oct. 1-3, and a women’s retreat hosted by ENDOW Oct. 15-17 on personal vocation and the Christian woman.
