DAVID CITY (SNR) – Every class in the K-12 Aquinas Catholic Schools in David City has spiritually adopted one of 13 local parishes surrounding the David City area that support the school system.
In addition to praying for the special intentions of the adopted parishes, the school’s goal is to have each class serve their parish in some way, large or small.
The junior class has adopted St. Mary Parish in David City and recently performed a service project for them. A small group of juniors and parents helped load Ray and Cherie Kobza’s pumpkins and gourds to be sold at St. Mary’s “Pumpkin and Gourd Fundraiser” on a weekend. The following Friday, after the pumpkin sales were over, the entire class traveled to the patch to clear out the plants so the field will be ready for next year’s harvest.
The Aquinas kindergarten class adopted Ss. Peter and Paul Parish in Abie. Trev Moravec, from Moravec Auctions Co., visited the kindergarten class to teach them about how an auction works and even how to bid. A special kid’s auction was added to Ss. Peter and Paul’s annual duck and ham dinner fundraiser Oct. 3, and raised approximately $600 for the parish.
