McCOOK (SNR) – Families of St. Patrick School and Parish in McCook recently participated in the Box of Joy program put on through Cross Catholic Outreach.
The parish participation in the program was under the direction of Amanda Peterson, who teaches first grade at St. Patrick School. She has organized the event for several years.
The school and parish collected needed items and then a group of families and students met after school to pack the boxes.
“We were able to send over 75 boxes full of toys, clothes, candy, and toiletries to children in impoverished countries,” Peterson said. “This is the seventh year we have participated in this program. We were able to bring the joy and love of Jesus to these children.”
Peterson offered her thanks to the Altar Society at St. Patrick Parish and others whose donations helped cover the cost of shipping the packages.
Parishes or groups interested in participating in future Box of Joy events may learn more at crosscatholic.org/box-of-joy. Last year, participants provided items for 61,422 children in seven countries.
