LINCOLN (SNR) – Tim Staples, senior apologist at Catholic Answers, will present “The Eucharist in the Fathers of the Church” Tuesday, July 28 at 7 p.m. at Pius X High School in Lincoln, 6600 ‘O’ St.
The talk will be the third in a series sponsored by Spirit Catholic Radio.
Staples will present “Why be Catholic?” at St. Bonaventure in Columbus at 7 p.m. July 26, and “The Living Bread” at Prince of Peace in Kearney at 7 p.m. July 27.
Staples defends the Real Presence of the Lord in the Eucharist using Scripture, Tradition and the Magisterium of the Church.
According to Catholic Answers, Staples was raised a Southern Baptist but fell away, and then came back to faith in Christ during his late teen years through the witness of Christian televangelists. While serving in the Marine Corps, Staples became involved in ministry with various Assemblies of God communities. He enrolled in Jimmy Swaggart Bible College and became a youth minister in an Assembly of God community.
When a friend challenged Staples to study Catholicism from Catholic and historical sources, it sparked a two-year search for the truth. Staples said he was determined to prove Catholicism wrong, but ended up studying his way into the Catholic Church. He converted to Catholicism in 1988 and spent the following six years in formation for the priesthood, earning a degree in philosophy from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood, Penn. He then studied theology on a graduate level at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, Md., for two years. Realizing he was not called to the priesthood, Staples left the seminary in 1994 and has worked in Catholic apologetics and evangelization since that time.
Tickets for Staples’ Nebraska talks are $5 each, or participants may reserve five tickets for $20. The tickets can be purchased online at spiritcatholicradio.com.
