Sept. 23-25 retreat with Magnificat, Disciples of the Lord Jesus

WAVERLY (SNR) – The Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ sisters will present a retreat Sept. 23-25 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly, sponsored by the Morning Star Chapter of Magnificat.

The theme of the retreat, “Honey from the Rock: Finding God in All Things” comes from Psalm 81:16: “I would feed you with the finest wheat, and with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”

The retreat is an invitation for women of all ages who are looking for growth and transformation, to ‘Be Renewed in the Spirit,’ to receive a greater outpouring of God’s Love in Jesus, and to rediscover the promise of the Father in the Holy Spirit. A series of teachings and reflections will accompany times of praise, prayer and discussion.

The retreat will be based on Scripture and the Catechism, and will be a time to ponder the role of the Holy Spirit and how God provides for all needs. He quenches thirst and feeds hunger, as the Pentecost sequence prays: “You, of comforters the best; You, the soul’s most welcome guest; Sweet refreshment here below; In our labor, rest most sweet; Grateful coolness in the heat; Solace in the midst of woe.”

The retreat will be given by Sister Marguerite Marie and Sister Mary Nika of the Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ sisters, a Franciscan charismatic religious community in the Diocese of Amarillo, Texas.

Sr. Marguerite Marie entered the Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ in 2010, professing vows in 2013. She has served in various capacities in the community, including the house at the Ark and the Dove in Pittsburgh.

Sister Mary Nika has been a member of the Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ since August of 2019. She professed her first vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience Aug. 6.

Magnificat is a women’s ministry that encourages a lively, active faith in the Lord, along with a love for Mary and the Church. Members are encouraged to become more open to the Holy Spirit through a deeper commitment of their lives to Jesus as Lord and to loving service.

Father John Rooney, chaplain of the Magnificat Morning Star Chapter, and vice rector and professor at St. Gregory the Great Seminary in Seward, will provide Mass, confessions, Adoration, and direction during the weekend retreat.

Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House offers a peaceful atmosphere of prayer and recollection near Waverly. The facility includes 50 single rooms, each with a private bath. Weekend retreats typically begin with a rosary and Mass at 8 p.m. on Friday, and end with Sunday Mass, followed by lunch.
