Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly will host a marriage workshop retreat Feb. 24-26.

Father Jarosław “Jay” Szymczak will lead the “I+You=We – Love and Life” workshop.

Couples of all ages are invited to the weekend workshop, to receive examples and encouragement helping to enrich and defend marriages. The workshop will provide basic steps for couples to meet challenges and to prepare before those problems arise.

During the weekend there will also be an opportunity to sort out and heal from wounds within marriage in order to learn and draw strength for the future going forward. It is designed for all marriages: troubled, functioning or strong – the objective is to prevent the habits and mistakes that lead to the problems which end with unhappiness and divorce.

After the workshop is completed, couples will be able to become part of a “Love and Life Community,” which serves as a “refueling station” or safe harbor for graduates of I+You=We. There, couples and families can grow in friendship with others in the area, stay in touch with Father Jay and the other coach couples in the area, and refresh and practice the steps learned in I+You=We.

Father Jay, of the Institute of the Holy Family in Łomianki, Poland, holds a doctor of theology degree on marriage and the family, and has been a faculty lecturer at the Institute in Warsaw since 1987. The workshops are based on the teachings of the Church, including the teachings of St. Pope Paul VI and St. Pope John Paul II.

Two concurrent programs will take place the weekend of Feb. 24-26: Program 1 (I+You) begins Saturday with Mass at 8 a.m. and ends Sunday with Mass at 3 p.m. Those who have already completed Program 1 join Program 2 (We+Family) Friday evening to Sunday.
