Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly will host a retreat March 10-12, “In the Presence of the Lord” with Father Loras Grell.
The goal of the retreat, held in the midst of the nationwide Eucharistic Revival, is to provide a foundation to help Catholics build their faith in God's true presence in the Holy Eucharist.
Father Grell will take retreatants through the timeline of adoration of the Holy Eucharist, from the Last Supper to today, as well as the effect adoration of the True Presence of Jesus has on an individual. He will draw from the book “In the Presence of Our Lord: the history, theology, and psychology of Eucharistic Devotion” by Father Benedict Groeschel, C.F.R.
Father Grell said he hopes retreatants will come away with a greater increase of faith. He said he looks forward to talking with those who have doubts.
“You have to know the basics before those basics can be revived,” Father Grell said. The Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ found in the Eucharist is the “source and summit of the Christian Life” as stated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Father Grell has been ordained a priest for 26 years. He spent his first few years teaching in Lincoln, six years in David City, and then in Lawrence and Deweese. He is currently the pastor of St. Mary Parish in Wymore, with missions in Barneston and Odell.
