All mothers – and their babies – are welcome to a “Holiness for Moms” day of reflection at Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly Saturday, March 18, with Father Ryan Kaup.

The topic for the retreat is finding holiness in the busy, sleep-deprived, and seemingly unremarkable years of early motherhood.

The retreat is designed for moms, so they can come for a day, bring a Pack 'n Play and whatever else is needed. Moms will also be available to hold babies.

Marilyn Klein, who has helped organize this retreat for several years, said, “Our hope is that moms will come back from this retreat refreshed and reinvigorated in their vocation.

“I think we can do better at taking care of moms who take care of so many other people,” she added.

She said mothers who attend will leave with a sense of community, encouragement and spiritual nourishment.

“This retreat is near and dear to my heart because we started it when my youngest was a toddler,” Klein said. “I basically modeled it with what I wanted after having four children in seven years.”

Father Kaup will lead the retreat along with testimony, encouragement, and discussion with other moms.

Father Kaup was ordained a priest in 2015 and served the Hispanic community at Cristo Rey Parish in Lincoln. He is now the pastor at St. Benedict Parish and a teacher at Lourdes Central High School in Nebraska City. He encourages all moms of young children to avoid feeling guilty about making time for oneself.

“You live a life of self-sacrifice and giving,” he said. “Maybe it’s time for you to step away and make time for the Lord.”
