In preparation for Holy Week, “Compassion in the Passion,” a Palm Sunday weekend retreat, will take place from April 11-13 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly.

The retreat will center on the Passion of Christ, guiding participants into deeper reflection and prayer as they prepare for the sacred days of the Triduum.

Led by Father John Rooney, the retreat will begin Friday with a rosary and Mass at 8 p.m. It will conclude on Sunday with a noon lunch.

Fr. John Rooney

“I asked for help in prayer, and the idea came to me to give short reflections to lead people to pray with the Scriptures for the different moments of the Triduum,” Father Rooney shared. “The focus is on imaginatively entering into the hearts of the people in these scenes.”

The retreat’s theme, “Compassion in the Passion,” highlights the role of the heart, particularly the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, in the events of Holy Thursday through Easter Sunday. Through scriptural reflections and personal prayer, attendees will be encouraged to contemplate the emotions and experiences of those present during Christ’s suffering, death, and resurrection.

Father Rooney hopes the retreat will inspire participants to engage in imaginative prayer, deepening their connection to the Gospel accounts of Holy Week.
