Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly invites men of all ages to attend “The Prodigal Retreat for Men” Oct. 24–26.
Led by Father Christopher Barak, Father Benjamin Holdren and Jonathan Little, the weekend retreat offers an opportunity to step away from the noise of daily life and encounter the Father’s mercy and healing. The retreat starts Friday with the rosary and Mass at 8 p.m., and ends Sunday with Mass and lunch at noon.
The theme of the retreat recalls the parable of the Prodigal Son in the Gospel of Luke (15:11-32) and welcomes men of varied perspectives. It welcomes men who, like the prodigal son, feel too ashamed to come home; or men who, like the prodigal son’s brother, who are too angry to receive the Father’s love. It also welcomes men who identify with the father in the parable, hoping and waiting for the conversion of a loved one. The retreat will help men find rest in the arms of God the Father; rest from sin, anxiety, fear and worry.
The retreat will give participants tools to know and experience God more intimately; using “feeling prayer,” they will have time and space to experience God’s healing. Though the retreat is primarily focused on one’s individual interior life, it also recognizes the need for community through vulnerability and true Christian intimacy as men. Accordingly, participants will also spend time in small groups, in fellowship and activities.
