Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly plans two unique opportunities for people to step away from the busyness of life and spend a day growing in faith, prayer, and community.

On Saturday, Nov. 22, Father Jay Buhman will lead the “Retreat for Moms of Young People,” a baby-friendly retreat designed specifically for mothers with young children. The retreat will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and may be live streamed if there is demand. Nursing babies are welcome, and each participant will have a private room for rest, prayer, or childcare needs such as nursing, pumping, or a pack-n-play.

The retreat will include talks, prayer, confession, community and silence, with respect for the realities of motherhood. Lauren Bassinger, a member of North American Martyrs Parish in Lincoln and a mother of four, previously attended this retreat and described it as “perfect for moms with littles.” She said it offered solidarity, encouragement, and a reminder that “holiness is for all phases of life,” even in the midst of the chaos of raising children.

On Sunday, Nov. 23, the retreat house will host “Fathers Know Best: Consecration to St. Joseph.” This one-day retreat for men and fathers will begin at 9 a.m. – after coffee and fellowship beginning 8:30 a.m. – and conclude at 4:30 p.m. The retreat will explore the life and example of St. Joseph as a model for Christian fatherhood and family life.

Led by Catholic speakers, the retreat invites men to entrust their spiritual well-being to St. Joseph, seeking his intercession for healing and guidance. Participants will be encouraged to begin a 33-day consecration to St. Joseph Nov. 25, continuing through Advent and culminating on the Feast of the Holy Family Dec. 28. Books will be available for purchase. The day will also include Sunday Mass, confession, talks, discussion, prayer and time for silence.
