LINCOLN (SNR/PX) - The growing music department at Pius X High School in Lincoln recently was gifted with a generous grant from the Lincoln-based Pearle Francis Finigan Foundation in the amount of $21,093.
Funding from the grant covered the cost of upgrading the performing arts sound system and purchasing new choral risers and band uniforms. The sound system upgrade included a microphone package and new soundboard.
Pearle Francis Finigan, who died Oct. 6, 2009, was a strong proponent of music education and appreciation. In his youth, Finigan, who was confirmed at St. Patrick Church, came from a musical family, and was involved in band both at school and in a Catholic band in Lincoln.
“Pearle believed all students should have music in their lives,” said Liana Sandin, the foundation president. “We have a mandate that we mainly give to music education, partially because it is often neglected.
“Music does things for your brain that you cannot get any other way,” she added.
