It is true that Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska has helped needy individuals and families in the southeastern portion of the Diocese of Lincoln before starting the St. Francis Center in Auburn. But it is a beautiful space, complete with a thrift store (the profits of which are used to help needy people and families), social and clinical service offices, and warehouse space.

Since its inception in 2000, we have provided nearly $1.6 million of total assistance to individuals and families in the southeastern sector of the diocese. This includes help with rent and utilities, medical expenses, food, clothing, cars, and grants for counseling, to name a few areas.

I am excited to announce that on Sunday, June 26, Catholic Social Services is holding its annual St. Francis Summer’s Eve Celebration to benefit those who come to us in crisis. This year it will be different. We are planning a riverboat dinner cruise on The Spirit of Brownville Riverboat, docked on East Main Street in Brownville.

The riverboat will be leaving the dock at 5 p.m. and will return at 7 p.m. Included in the cruise will be a dinner buffet. The cost is $30 per person. Corporate sponsorships are available.

All the net proceeds will go to help needy individuals and families who live in the southeastern sector of the diocese of Lincoln.

I pray that you will be able to join us on this first ever event (we have never hosted a riverboat dinner cruise!). I understand that the scenery is beautiful. Seating is limited to 100 attendees. If you are not able to attend, please pray for the success of this fun event.

To register, please contact us by calling Paula or John at 402-474-1600.

Please know that we at Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska will keep you, your family and intentions in our prayers. St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of our southeastern Nebraska center, pray for us!
