This class begins by considering how the number of converts in the New World counterbalanced the number of people leaving the Church in Europe because of the Reformation. Next, the class looks into the meaning of the Catholic Counter-Reformation as a response to the Protestant Reformation that ultimately led to real renewal in the life in the Church. Finally, it examines the importance of the Council of Trent and saints who led reform efforts, including St. Charles Borromeo and St. Francis de Sales.
