Homework Outline
This class is the second of three to examine the Sixth and Ninth Commandments on the nature of human sexuality. The focus is on contraception and sterilization. It begins by acknowledging the sole leadership of the Catholic Church in condemning contraception and traces the history of how contraception has become “acceptable” in modern society. Pope Paul VI’s singular document, Humanae Vitae, outlined the damage that widespread contraception would have and made profound predictions about the lowering standard of morality, the general disregard of women’s health, the role of government in enforcing contraception and the general treatment of human bodies as machines rather than gifts. Contraception is also shown to devalue sex, marriage, human life and women. A general negative attitude toward fertility is then reflected in the process of physical sterilization. These concepts are countered by showing the beauty and benefits of natural family planning. A homework outline is provided for student notes.
