Homework Outline
This class examines the Seventh and Tenth Commandments, reflecting on what it means for something to belong to a person and how the gifts one has been given are for the good of all. At first, it addresses what is “mine” in terms of the perspective of gift and then looks at terms that are related to stealing. The positive and negative aspects of both Commandments is considered as well as the need for making restitution when something has been stolen in some way and the implications of coveting. The broader social justice issues of poverty and hunger are then addressed, showing how the Commandments affect more than just oneself. The topics of fair trade, overpopulation myth and ecology/stewardship are then discussed concluding with key points of Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato si'. A homework outline is provided for student notes.
