Homework Outline
This class looks at the history of social justice and Church social teaching. Beginning with Scripture (OT and NT) it summarizes the themes of Biblical justice and recognizes the “Cycle of Baal.” Next is a brief look at social justice development through the early centuries of the Church, the Middle Ages, the Age of Reason and the Modern Era. Pope Leo XIII’s encyclical Rerum Novarum is examined in detail along with Vatican II’s document Gaudium et spes. Subsequent papal documents of the past century are also touched upon. A homework outline is provided for student notes.
