LINCOLN (SNR) – The Diocese of Lincoln has two upcoming events for women – an introductory session for single women, and a “menopause night.”
The menopause night will be held Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. in Dawson Hall in the John XXIII Diocesan Center, 3700 Sheridan Blvd. Michele Chambers, CFCP, will discuss the hormonal and health changes that can occur as women approach and go through menopause. She will talk about changes that women can see in their bodies and health, as well as the implications for charting using Natural Family Planning. Women do not need to be charting to attend.
This is an evening for women who are approaching menopause, going through it currently, or those who are recently post-menopausal, as well as those who are just interested in the topic.
Light refreshments will be served. The event is open to women and couples. The event is free, and donations are accepted.
Registration is not required, but is requested to help with planning purposes.
“Having been a Creighton Model practitioner for over 25 years, some of the couples I taught when they were preparing for marriage or just had their first child have called me after 15-20 years of charting and feeling confident,” Chambers explained, “because they begin to notice subtle and not-so-subtle changes in their cycles. They can no longer rely on pretty much the same thing month after month, they are having trouble sleeping, their cycle is starting to vary in length, their menses is heavier or lighter, etc.
“Though the process is different for every woman,” she explained, “we can help explain why things are changing, and give them some strategies for ‘charting their course’ as they transition through peri-menopause (ages 45-55) to post-menopause.”

Marilyn Klein and Teresa Poss, Creighton Model practitioners, will lead a “Single Ladies Introductory Session” Oct. 6 at 7 p.m. at the John XXIII Center. Attendees can learn how to chart with the Creighton Model FertilityCare System and its health benefits.
The Creighton Model FertilityCare System was developed by Dr. Thomas Hilgers in Omaha, and is well known for its efficacy in family planning as well as its particular applications to women’s healthcare, known as NaProTechnology. Creighton practitioners are trained to identify and refer for biological markers which can indicate issues like low progesterone, PMS, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, and many more. This makes the Creighton model particularly well suited to women seeking to understand their reproductive health in their single years, as well as after they are married. Although doctors commonly prescribe birth control for a myriad of women’s health issues, charting with the Creighton model is an important first step for those who are hoping to address underlying issues and get to the bottom of their health issues.
The evening is intended to be both informative and fun. It is a time for those who may be curious about learning more about the Creighton Model but feel a little awkward coming to a regularly scheduled introductory session before being engaged. The introductory session will not fulfill the diocesan marriage preparation requirement. If couples are engaged or married, they should plan to attend a regularly scheduled introductory session or schedule a private introductory session.
Information for all introductory sessions can be found on the diocesan website at www.lincolndiocese.org/NFP.
The Oct. 6 single ladies session will include drinks and light snacks. The cost is $30 for this one-time event and will include a particular emphasis on reproductive and gynecological health. Please register at https://lincolndiocese.regfox.com/singleladies.
