LINCOLN (SNR) - Pius X High School in Lincoln hosted the school’s annual “Pro-Life Day” Sept. 17, inviting students from Aquinas High School in David City and Bishop Neumann High School in Wahoo to join them in praying for the unborn.

Scott Klusendorf spoke to the entire student body and their guests in the Pius X gymnasium.

Klusendorf is president of the Life Training Institute and travels throughout the United States and Canada training pro-life advocates to “persuasively defend their views in the public square.” His presentation was entitled, “Equipped to Engage: Making a Case for Life on Hostile Turf.” His focus was on equipping students to intellectually defend pro-life principles, using science and philosphy.

After his presentation, members of the Pius X Pro-Life Club and visitors from Aquinas and Bishop Neumann Schools traveled to stand outside Planned Parenthood in Lincoln, and peacefully pray for those seeking abortions that day. Members of the Pius X Choir Department led the singing of the Divine Mercy Chaplet, and students from all three schools sang songs of prayer, praise and worship.

Ms. Karen Bonkiewicz, the Pius X teacher who organized the day as sponsor of the school’s Pro-Life Club, said her favorite part of the day was watching young students embrace the faith.

The students, too, were moved by the faith-filled experience. Julia Nemec, a junior at Aquinas, said she liked seeing everyone gathered together in prayer.

“It is really impactful,” she said, “to see women going into the abortion clinic, that it’s a real-world problem we need to pray for.”
