LINCOLN (SNR) – The Family Life Office of the Diocese of Lincoln will present a free lecture series on John Paul II’s teachings of “Love and Responsibility.”
The lecture series will include experts in a variety of fields related to marital unity and intimacy. Each talk will be at 7 p.m. at the UNL Newman Center, 320 N. 16th St., Lincoln.
The series will begin Oct. 22 with Father Sean Kilcawley, director of the Office of Family Life for the Diocese of Lincoln, presenting an overview of John Paul II’s teachings on marriage and family life. Father Kilcawley is a 1996 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. In 1999, he left active military service to enter the seminary for the Diocese of Lincoln and was ordained a priest in 2005.
In 2013, Father Kilcawley completed a License in Sacred Theology from the John Paul II institute for marriage and family studies at the Lateran University in Rome. Since 2014 he has served as the director of the Office for Family Life, focusing efforts on diocesan initiatives to prevent early exposure to pornography, and resources of intervention and healing for those affected by pornography.
Drs. Jonathan and Alexandra Marcotte will present Nov. 19. They are co-founders of Sacred Ground Psychotherapy, LLC, a private practice in Lincoln that integrates the richness of the Catholic faith with empirically proven methods of therapy. They received their doctorates in clinical psychology from Divine Mercy University in Sterling, Va., and specialize in working with couples. They will speak on emotional intimacy.
Deacon James Keating from the Archdiocese of Omaha and the Institute of Priestly Formation will speak Jan. 14, 2020 on spiritual intimacy. Deacon Keating is the director of theological formation at the Institute for Priestly Formation. He leads the retreats for seminary faculty and formators provided by IPF and is the director of IPF Publications. He is also the author of the book “Spousal Prayer.”
Dr. Todd Bowman will present the final talk in the series Feb. 11, 2020, on healthy physical intimacy within marriage. Dr. Bowman, an associate professor of counseling at Indiana Wesleyan University, earned his doctoral degree in counseling psychology from Oklahoma State University in 2008. He has taught counselor education since 2008 and joined the IWU counselor education department in 2014. He specializes in human sexuality, sexual addiction, and psychological assessment, and published his first book in 2013: “Angry birds and killer bees: Talking to your kids about sex.”
