NEBRASKA CITY (SNR) – Sixty adults attend one of the three weekly sessions of “Genesis to Jesus” conducted by Sister Kathleen of the Franciscan Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother in Nebraska City.
The instruction, held at the Sisters’ convent in Nebraska City, is a bird’s-eye journey through salvation history examining how God made His plan for the world known in history, and how that plan affects people here and now.
“Genesis to Jesus” surveys the five principal covenants that God made with His people in the Old Testament through figures such as Adam, Noah, Abraham, Moses, and David, Sister Kathleen explained. They also show how each of these covenants points to – and is fulfilled by – Jesus Christ and His Church. Participants experience a panoramic vision of salvation history and humanity’s place in this story, she said.
Along with reading the book, “A Father Who Keeps His Promises” by Dr. Scott Hahn, the participants view a video, produced by the St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology and answer questions to enhance the reading assignment.
“This ‘covenant love’ that God reveals to us through the Scriptures,” Sister Kathleen said, “explains how He patiently reaches out to us – despite our faults and shortcomings – to restore us into relationship with His Divine Family.”
After finishing the 12-week study, the Sisters hope each participant will be transformed by God’s Fatherly love and mercy.
