Grief and the Holidays’ Nov. 12 at Gianna’s Java & Gelato
LINCOLN (SNR) – Healing Hearts Ministry will host “Grief and the Holidays” Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. in the Guadalupe Room at Gianna’s Gelato and Java, 2241 O St ., Lincoln.
Sandy Danek, the founder of Healing Hearts ministry, will discuss coping strategies and dealing with grief while navigating the holidays.
Danek began Healing Hearts Ministry in 1991, and since then, the program has offered support for Catholics who have lost a loved one at any stage of life. The Mass of the Holy Innocents Dec. 28 is offered each year for anyone who has lost an infant. They also facilitate support groups and Grief Outreach training.
“My friend told me that she was just not looking forward to Advent at all,” said Marilyn Klein of the diocesan Family Life Office. The friend was experiencing secondary infertility and, “all the focus on Baby Jesus, all the anticipation of waiting for a baby, all of the people asking well-meaning questions about when they would have another one... it was heartbreaking for her.”
Knowing that the holidays can be a particularly sensitive and difficult time for those experiencing infertility, miscarriage, or infant loss, she said Healing Hearts ministry and the Family Life Office will offer Danek’s talk for women and couples who are carrying one or more of these crosses.
The event is free, but pre-registration is strongly requested at https://lincolndiocese.regfox.com/grief.
