OMAHA (SCR/VCR) – Spirit Catholic Radio and Valley Catholic Radio (VCR) of Scottsbluff/Gering announced VCR’s programming will move to a full-power FM radio station in the Scottsbluff area in February.
VCR currently broadcasts as a low-power FM station (LPFM) on 95.1-FM KCTH-LP and carries programming provided by the Spirit Catholic Radio Network. The full-power FM station VCR programming will move to is 99.3-FM KETT.
The 99.3-FM KETT signal will reach an approximately 75-mile diameter, while the previous LPFM signal reached approximately a 12-mile area.
“When we were able to bring Catholic radio to the Scottsbluff/Gering area through the creation of the LPFM 95.1-FM, KCTH-LP, our vision was always to eventually see a full-power, Catholic radio station broadcasting in the area,” said Lee Trautman, president of Valley Catholic Radio. “When the opportunity for us to work with Spirit Catholic Radio to acquire the 99.3-FM KETT signal arose, VCR knew this was something that had to be done to fulfill our vision. It’s an exciting opportunity to be able to reach so many more people in western Nebraska.”
To make the full-power FM signal a reality, VCR will transfer their assets to Spirit Catholic Radio to assist in the purchase, as VCR will cease operating once the full-power signal begins broadcasting. Although an anonymous donor family from the Scottsbluff area has provided a $15,000 matching gift to put toward the purchase of the 99.3-FM KETT signal, $15,000 in matching pledges are still needed in order for the station to begin broadcasting in February.

Spirit Catholic Radio Network is a non-profit, listener-funded radio apostolate with studios in Omaha and Lincoln; an office in Greeley, Neb.; and a studio located in the chancery office of the Grand Island Diocese. The network currently has six full-power FM signals and provides programming for eight LPFM stations across the state, reaching 94 percent of the state of Nebraska. The network’s mission is to help all people encounter Jesus by sharing the Gospel message over the radio airwaves.
