LINCOLN (SNR) – The Emmaus Institute for Biblical Studies is taking registrations for its spring courses.

Based on a 10-week quarter system, the spring term will feature four new courses, beginning the first week in March and concluding the second week in May, with a break for Holy Week. Each two-hour class will meet one evening weekly, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Lincoln-area clergy, religious, and laity are encouraged to consider one or more of the following study opportunities in the coming term: “The Whole in One–a fast-paced journey through the whole Bible in one quarter,” Mondays; V. Steiner, J. Burks, C. Steiner; “The Gospels: Creation Redeemed in the Word Made Flesh–the revelation of Christ in the four Gospels at the heart of our Creation to New Creation journey through Scripture from Genesis to Revelation,” Tuesdays; J. Burks, V. Steiner; “Foundations in Biblical Study (Part I)”– the first of two courses focusing on essentials in studying and understanding Scripture, Wednesdays; V. Steiner; “The Nicene Creed: What Christians Believe and Why it Matters–an examination and exposition of the Church’s profession of faith,” Thursdays; C. Steiner.

Additional details, including full course descriptions, cost, location, and a convenient online registration form, are available at www.emmausinstitute.net. Students are encouraged to register early in order to reserve a spot in the class.

The Emmaus Institute is in its first year of operation, with 80-90 students enrolled in its fall and winter terms. Dedicated to the study, learning, and living of Sacred Scripture, the Institute serves the people of the Diocese of Lincoln by providing a variety of Scripture-centered courses, seminars, retreats, and other resources at various levels, in the interest of inspiring all Christians to a greater love for Christ through a deepening understanding of God’s Word.

Dr. Vern Steiner, president of the Institute, explained that like Jesus in the Emmaus Road story of Luke 24, the Institute sees its mission as coming alongside God’s people, explaining to them how the whole scriptural theo-drama, from Creation to New Creation, from Genesis to Revelation, points the way to knowing and walking with Jesus.

“And like the two disciples with whom Jesus conversed that first Easter, the Institute’s goal is that all hearts, ignited by the Word, “will burn within us,” and that eyes will be more opened to see him ‘in the breaking of the bread,’” he said.
