WAVERLY/SUTTON (SNR) - Men and women of all ages are invited to attend one of two Days of Recollection to start Lent. No advance registration is needed for the two days and locations, Waverly Feb. 26 and Sutton Feb. 28.
Each day of reflection and prayer, sponsored by the Lincoln Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (LDCCW), includes conferences, confessions, stations of the cross, rosary, and Mass.
The Feb. 26 Ash Wednesday Day of Recollection will be at Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House, Waverly.
The Ash Wednesday reflections will be led by Father Justin Fulton, director of Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska. He will speak on the theme, “A Stripping Down So That Only Love Remains.” Like St. Therese, he said, participants can learn how the greatest of all things is love, a love lived in trust, renunciation, and surrender.
The Ash Wednesday Recollection starts with 9 a.m. registration and 9:45 a.m. Chaplet of Divine Mercy, and ends with a Mass with ashes closing at 3 p.m. The cost is $10 and participants should bring a meatless sack lunch for themselves; drinks are provided.
Father Andrew Heaslip, director of the Office of Religious Education, will lead the Friday Day of Recollection Feb. 28, at St. Mary Church in Sutton.
The Friday reflection on the theme “Prayer of the Heart” will help participants move beyond just vocal and liturgical prayer, which can remain at the surface and external, and go deeper into meditation and contemplation, learning that prayer is a time to be with God and experience his presence and love.
Men and women are invited to St. Mary Church in Sutton Friday Feb. 28. The day starts with 9 a.m. registration and 9:30 a.m. Rosary, and concludes at 2:30 p.m. Participants are asked to bring $5 and a meatless salad to share.
The LDCCW is an organization of all Catholic women in the Diocese of Lincoln, they sponsor these days of recollection as just one of many projects designed to further spiritual and family life in the parishes and communities of southern Nebraska.
