LINCOLN (EI/SNR) - The Emmaus Institute for Biblical Studies will offer four, one-week Scripture courses this summer in a live, interactive, online format.
“Emmaus Short Courses” will run two hours per day for five consecutive days—half the class hours of the normal 10-week courses during the school year. Classes will be recorded for registrants who miss sessions, and made available for purchase after course completion, for those whose schedules cannot accommodate the live class schedule.
“We started the year with in-person classes exclusively, and ended it with an accelerated transition to online offerings in response to COVID-19,” said Dr. Vern Steiner, Emmaus president. “Community is a core value of Emmaus, as the Body of Christ is a community of believers. Our online classes are very much designed with community-building in mind.”
Clergy, religious, and laity are encouraged to consider one or more of the study opportunities.
The week of June 8-12, Chad Steiner will present “The Eucharist as a Theme throughout Sacred Scripture” from 9 to 11 a.m. and Joshua Burks will present “The Mother of the Word: A Biblical Study of Mary” from 1 to 3 p.m.
The next two courses will be offered June 22-26. Chad Steiner will present “The Nicene Creed: What Christians Believe and Why It Matters” from 9 to 11 a.m. and Joshua Burks will present “The Gospels: Creation Redeemed in the Word Made Flesh” from 1 to 3 p.m.
Course descriptions and registration details are available at www.emmausinstitute.net/courses.
In addition to the one-week courses, Emmaus will offer a unique option for those who wish to go deeper in their study of Scripture. During the months of June and July, Dr. Vern Steiner will teach a course in Elementary Biblical Greek.
“Having studied and taught the biblical languages for many years, I am especially eager to provide this special opportunity for clergy, consecrated religious, and seminarians,” says Dr. Steiner. “While the class is designed primarily for those who preach and teach the Faith, dedicated laity who desire an opportunity to explore the depth and richness of the New Testament in its original language are also welcome.”

As the Emmaus Institute wraps up its first academic year, the staff are exceedingly grateful for the Lord’s blessings on this ministry.
“We are especially humbled by and grateful for the prayers and partnership of those who share the vision of a biblically literate and passionately Catholic community, filled with the knowledge and love of Christ, through a deepening understanding of Scripture,” Dr. Steiner said. “To God be the glory for the more than 300 registrants in our various classes and seminars in this inaugural year!”
In addition to its regular offerings, the Institute was joined for its April 18 webinar by friend and professional colleague, Dr. Scott Hahn. The recording has been viewed by more than 30,000 people from multiple countries.
