(SNR) – The School Sisters of Christ the King of the Diocese of Lincoln will offer their Cor Jesu Rex summer catechetical program in an online format this year, providing children with a week of instruction in a safe format.

Families may select any week to participate from home in June or July, by visiting the Sisters’ Cor Jesu Rex website.

“We hope Cor Jesu Rex will help foster a deeper love for Jesus and the Sacraments by providing engaging activities that the whole family can enjoy at home,” said Sister Mary Maximilian.

They also hope the online format this year might make Cor Jesu Rex available to families who have never participated in the program before.

The activities are divided into segments for students who have completed grades 1-2, grades 3-5, and grades 6-8.

Children will begin with a video on the sacraments. Families may print off a booklet for the week, and each day click on the web link for activities, prayer ideas and background for parents so they, too, can grow in their faith while helping their children follow the activities.

“Make it a special week,” the Sisters’ website encourages, “by going to (or watching) Mass, going to confession, spending time talking about what you learned with your family. Some of the activities you can do with entire family.”

Cor Jesu Rex started in the early days of the School Sisters’ community, beginning as a summer CCD program for parishes without Catholic schools. As it grew, the name was changed to Cor Jesu Rex from the Litany of the Sacred Heart, Heart of Jesus, King and Center of all Hearts, have mercy on us. The Sisters have established a five-year rotation of lessons centered on the pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and Salvation History.

“Since we are a community of teachers and want to further the reign of Christ the King,” Sister Mary Maximilian explained, “it’s an enjoyable way to spend the month of June going out to various parishes in groups of two to four Sisters for a week, and leading the children to our Lord.”
