WAVERLY (SNR) – St. Peter, St. Sebastian, St. Isidore, and St. Maximillian Kolbe are among the saints who are powerful intercessors and role models for Catholic men that can be found throughout the Church’s history, in every century and place.

On Saturday, Sept. 26, Father Gary Coulter, director of Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House, will hold a one-day retreat for men entitled “St. Joseph and Saints for Men.”

“We look to the saints to teach us how to lead the Christian life and respond to the challenge of holiness,” said Father Coulter. “We need leaders and models in the spiritual battle to help us run the race and persevere to the end.”

The day of reflection will examine the lives of St. Joseph, St. Augustine, and St. Josemaria Escriva among others, like St. Thomas More, St. Damien of Molokai, and St. John Paul II, seeing characteristics that will help men be better men, husbands, fathers, and disciples.

The day of reflection for men of all ages begins Saturday, Sept. 26 at 9 a.m. The in-person retreat includes conferences, Mass, lunch, confessions and adoration, concluding by 4 p.m. The suggested donation is $50. The retreat can also be watched online for $25.

Good Counsel Retreat House near Waverly will offer housing Sept. 24-26 for the women’s conference taking place at St. Peter Church in Lincoln. “Undone: Freedom for the Feminine Heart” is hosted by the John Paul II Healing Center, jpiihealingcenter.org.

Upcoming retreats, both in-person and online, include a Eucharistic retreat Oct. 2-4, a scriptural retreat for women Oct. 16-18 with Father Jay Buhman, and a retreat on St. John of the Cross Oct. 23-25 with Father Karl Millis.
