LINCOLN (SNR) - The Knights of Columbus Council 13576 Msgr. David R. Hintz of St. Patrick Parish in Lincoln is planning for the observance of Veterans Day, Nov. 11 at Calvary Cemetery.

At 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, volunteers will meet at a table near “Priest Point” in Calvary Cemetery. A priest will lead a prayer and bless the 500 United States of America flags that are to be placed on veterans’ graves. Volunteers are welcome to assist.

The flags will be picked up from the Veterans graves Thursday, Nov. 12, at 5 p.m.

The celebration of Veterans Day is an official United States public holiday, observed annually Nov. 11. It honors persons who served in the United States Armed Forces.It coincides with other holidays including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, celebrated in other countries, that mark the anniversary of the end of World War I. The major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. The U.S. holiday was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.

Calvary Cemetery is on the south side of 40th and O streets in Lincoln, and the main entrance is located at 3880 L St.
