LINCOLN – With the fall term coming to a close, The Emmaus Institute for Biblical Studies is now taking registrations for its winter 2020-2021 courses, which begin the Monday after Thanksgiving.
Based on a 10-week quarter system, the winter term will feature four new courses, beginning Nov. 30 and concluding Feb. 18, with a two-week recess over the Christmas and New Year holidays. Each two-hour class will meet one evening weekly (6:30 to 8:30 p.m.).
Winter courses include “Studying Ecclesiastes: A Journey Toward a Meaningful Life, taught Mondays by Chad Steiner; “The Historical Books (Joshua-Maccabees)—in the Creation to New Creation” stream of courses from Genesis to Revelation, Tuesdays by Vern and Chad Steiner and Joshua Burks; “Heaven Help the Home: Recapturing a Biblical Vision of Marriage and Family,” Wednesdays by Vern Steiner; and “Encountering Jesus in The Gospel of Luke” Thursdays by Burks.
All four classes will be recorded and available the following day, including comprehensive study notes, for self-paced viewing by those who register for the online version. In-person registrants will also have free access to the recordings.
“This hybrid approach to in-person and online classes provides a flexibility that many of our students find welcoming,” said Emmaus president Dr. Vern Steiner. “The in-person option for people who live in the Lincoln area enables a higher degree of class participation, teacher interaction, and community building; but thanks to technology, the online option makes it possible for us to serve the entire diocese and beyond with a high-quality learning experience. We’re working hard at maximizing the best of both worlds, in a way that is consistent with our mission.”
Dr. Steiner added that in-person class attendees appreciate the care with which the Institute continues to abide by the recommendations from the medical, diocesan, and governing authorities for health and safety in our city.
“This means, of course, that class sizes are limited, so we encourage people to register early in order to ensure a spot in the classroom.”
Additional details, including full course descriptions, cost, location, and a convenient online registration form are available at www.emmausinstitute.net.
In addition to the 10-week courses, the Institute offers half-day seminars in which the Emmaus teaching staff address a timely topic from a biblical perspective.
It’s not too early to save the date for the next quarterly seminar, Dr. Steiner said. “Redeeming Communication: Christian Speech in a Hostile World” will be presented Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021. The event will be hosted at St. Michael Parish in Lincoln, and all are welcome. Additional information and registration details will be available by the end of the year.
