LINCOLN (SNR) – Members of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal (CFRs) will come to Lincoln this month for four nights of Lenten “parish mission”-style events, at four different parishes in Lincoln.
The first event will be held Sunday, March 21 at North American Martyrs Church, 1101 Isaac Dr. The next will be March 22 at St. Peter Church, 4500 Duxhall Dr.; March 23 at St. Michael, 9101 S. 78th St.; and March 24 at St. John the Apostle, 7601 Vine St.
Each event will begin at 7 p.m. They will include adoration, confessions and preaching. The theme is “Begin Again.”
The Franciscan Friars of the Renewal were founded in 1987 by eight Franciscan friars, and today number more than 120. They have several friaries in New York City, as well as New Jersey, New Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua, Great Britain, and Ireland. Their primary mission is “a wholehearted embracing of Jesus Christ and our Holy Father St. Francis.”
The CFRs are sometimes called “the gray friars” due to the color of their robes, and are well known through events like the planned parish missions, but also through a strong presence in social media and Catholic news outlets.
Fathers Innocent and Angelus – twin brothers, born Scott and Rusty Montgomery in Lincoln – are familiar faces on EWTN, now co-hosting “Icons” with another CFR priest, in which they “ hit the streets and interview everyday Catholics who follow Christ in the world today.”
