LINCOLN (SNR) – The Emmaus Institute for Biblical Studies will present a morning seminar Saturday, April 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the theme, “I Believe in the Holy Spirit”: Meeting the Breath of God in Scripture.
The event will be hosted at St. Peter Church, 4500 Duxhall Dr., Lincoln. Mass will be celebrated at 8:15 a.m., followed by refreshments at 8:45 in Bishop Vasa Hall, catered by The Harbor Coffeehouse. The seminar will commence in the Hall at 9 and will feature three talks, one by each of the Emmaus faculty, that consider the third person of the Trinity throughout sacred Scripture in light of three different starting points.
Chad Steiner will present “The Holy Spirit and the Creed: Recognizing the Spirit as ‘Lord’ and ‘Giver of Life,’” asking what it means for the Creed to use Old Testament language in relation to the Holy Spirit, and whether the Creed directs the faithful to turn to the Old Testament to find the Holy Spirit there.
In “The Holy Spirit and the Church: Recovering the Power of Pentecost,” Joshua Burks will lead a reading of the account of Pentecost in Acts 2, and examine the way a pattern was established for the outpouring of the Spirit on the community of faith that continues to the present.
Vern Steiner will present “The Holy Spirit and the Christian: Living the Transformed Life in Christ,” examining various passages to help participants understand why it was to the “advantage” of the disciples for Jesus to “go away” so that he could send “the Helper” (John 16:7), and how that Helper continues to be of help in transforming lives, even now.
A light lunch will be catered at noon by Valentino’s, followed by a time of questions and answers, reflection, and discussion about various points raised in the sessions, until 1 p.m.
For more information and to register, go to www.emmausinstitute.net or contact the Institute office at 402.327.1671 by April 8. The seminar cost of $30 includes handout materials, coffee and refreshments.
This is the last of three quarterly Emmaus Institute seminars planned for the current academic year. St. Peter has generously opened their doors for the event to take place in the lower level of the church, where attendees can sit comfortably and safely at appropriately distanced tables. All are welcome, but attendees must register by April 8.
