WAVERLY (SNR) – Volunteers assembled new beds for students at Villa Marie Home and School for Exceptional Children in Waverly May 1, the feast of St. Joseph the Worker.

The 10-member crew consisted of Knights of Columbus from St. Michael Parish in Lincoln, and members of the Villa Marie Advisory Board. They came to assemble new beds for the Villa Marie student boarders and Sisters who staff Villa Marie—19 beds in all.

A statue of St. Joseph propped the door open as the old beds were carried out and the new bed frames, box springs and mattresses were carried in and assembled. The beds, a much-needed upgrade, were donated to the school through the generosity of the State Knights of Columbus as well as some private donors.

Nick Cusick, chairman of the advisory board and a long-time friend of Villa Marie School, spearheaded the project, and Jerry Coniglio, owner of Lincoln Mattress, provided the new beds at cost. The old beds were donated to Catholic Social Services, who also provided a trailer in which the new beds were stored until they could be assembled.
