(SNR) - With the help of its committees, the Lincoln Council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul plans to bolster its efforts this year to serve those in need.
The St. Vincent DePaul Society is an international organization comprised of lay persons whose objectives involve them in social and charitable work through their services to the poor. It is open to anyone wishing to live their faith by loving and serving their neighbor.
The Society’s charitable services, administered through a network of parish volunteer groups called “Conferences,” are part of the life of the Catholic Church.
The Lincoln Council has 250 Vincentians/volunteers in 12 conferences in the Catholic Diocese of Lincoln, including Beatrice and Seward. Last year, the council helped 988 families with rent, utilities, food, furniture, beds and various other emergency needs. It serves everyone regardless of creed, opinion, color or origin with dignity and integrity.
The Conference Development Committee will help with recruitment, stewardship and training for new Vincentians. The Revenue Committee will ensure the council has the finances to carry out its endeavors for the underprivileged in the community.
Faithful to its founders, the council constantly strives to renew and adapt itself to the changing conditions of the world. The council is looking at various other ways to expand its mission this year. Members want anyone interested in serving neighbors in need to help them carry out the Lord’s plan.
