LINCOLN (SNR) – The Family Life Office of the Diocese of Lincoln hosted a kickoff for the “Summer Family Challenge” May 23.
The event included a holy hour and an ice cream social at the John XXIII Diocesan Center in Lincoln.
The Summer Family Challenge is a list of 33 items in categories of pilgrimage, acts of service, prayer, and family time to encourage families to spend intentional time together and in prayer this summer. The program was created to mark the “Family Year” declared by Pope Francis.
The challenge began on Pentecost and will go until the feast of the Assumption Aug. 15. Families of any age are encouraged to participate. There are prizes for various levels of accomplishment.

The Amoris Laetitia Family Year began March 19, the Solemnity of St. Joseph, the fifth anniversary of Pope Francis’ Amoris laetitia.
Though it is being called a “year,” the celebration will actually last around 15 months, ending June 26, 2022 with the 10th edition of the World Meeting of Families, which will be held in Rome.
