WAVERLY (SNR) – Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House in Waverly invites men and women of all ages to an “Unbound Freedom in Christ” weekend retreat Aug. 27-29, empowering participants to experience freedom and healing.
Unbound is for anyone who isn’t ‘perfect as their Heavenly Father is perfect.’
“Christ calls us to perfect love, and the wounds, sin, and evil spirits who lead us away from God can be delivered through Unbound ministry,” said Father Gary Coulter, director of the retreat center. “If you’ve been hurt, feel heavy, or have sins you can’t get free from, Unbound could help you to find the freedom in Christ you desire.”
Father Coulter and Matt Simmons will lead the retreat, both in person and online, and retreatants will be invited to experience a prayer session using the five keys of Unbound.
Simmons, director of the Lincoln Diocese Office of Evangelization and Spiritual Formation, first learned about Unbound when he was a FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students) missionary. He said he continues to experience spiritual freedom as he applies the five keys to his own life and prayer, and is vulnerable in sharing those insights with faith and humility.
“In my own life, I have had many difficulties that Unbound has helped me overcome to live a happy, joyous, and free life,” Matt shared. “For example, I have struggled with obedience all my life and working for the Church, this is an essential quality to have. Before being prayed with, if I was given an obedience I didn’t want, I would interiorly struggle or do it with anger and frustration. After prayer, I have been easily able to overcome my resistance to obedience and experience a rich full life.”
Father Coulter has also personally experienced the healing and freedom of Unbound.
“Unbound helped me to recognize the lie of thinking that I have to earn God’s love,” he explained. “Now I can proclaim the truth that I am already loved, I am worthy of his love, and my limitations are not something to be ashamed of, but simply a cause to turn to Him.”
Men and women who come on the retreat will have the opportunity to be prayed for using the five keys, but should read the first part of “Unbound” by Neal Lozano or watch the video series beforehand.
Weekend retreats begin with a rosary and Mass at 8 p.m. on Friday and conclude with Sunday Mass and lunch. The suggested donation for in-person retreats is $180, and free-will offerings for online retreats support Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House near Waverly.
Upcoming four-day retreats include Directed Ignatian Spiritual Exercises Sept. 3-6 and Sept. 9-12, and a Work of the Holy Angels retreat Sept. 16-19 with Opus Sanctorum Angelorum.
