LINCOLN (IMF/SNR) – The International Missionary Foundation (IMF) will host a three-night parish mission at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln October 3, 10, and 17, at 4 p.m.

The event is based on a quote from St. John Paul II’s Mission of the Redeemer: “The Kingdom aims at transforming human relationships; it grows gradually as people slowly learn to love, forgive and serve one another.” The mission aims to provide formation and practical tools to grow in each of these areas.

In the spring of 2021, the International Missionary Foundation brought their ‘Come Alive’ seminar to the Cathedral of the Risen Christ.

Father Justin Wylie, rector of the Cathedral, said the IMF “made God’s presence truly felt in the lives of the 120 parishioners who registered in their seven-week program ‘Come Alive.’

“Months later,” he continued, “Cathedral’s priests are still reaping the fruits of that, especially in the confessional, and decided to recruit IMF for another year’s ministry.” In addition to the parish retreat this month, a mission trip is planned for next year.

“We’d recommend it for everyone,” he said.

The International Missionary Foundation began in 2010 with a vision to serve the suffering Christ in the poor both physically and spiritually through “parish2parish” relationships that are mutually beneficial between those in the U.S. and developing nations. Over the course of the past 10 years, they have led mission trips to Jamaica, Nicaragua, Papua New Guinea, and Nigeria. In the fall of 2020, IMF moved their headquarters to Lincoln under the invitation of Bishop James Conley.

“As missionary disciples we’re called to bring the joy and hope of the Gospel to those who are in need,” the bishop said. “The IMF provides us with such an opportunity. I fully support the efforts of the International Missionary Foundation and encourage you to prayerfully consider your parish’s participation.”

IMF not only provides parish2parish partnerships with sustainable ways to impact the lives of the poor through mission trips, but also creates atmospheres of parish renewal through retreats.

“Can you imagine if you asked yourself each day, how can I love, forgive and serve my family, co-workers and parish?” asked Joseph Williams, executive director of the IMF. “It would change everything!”

The parish mission at the Cathedral is free and no registration is required. It is open to people of all ages, from any parish.
