WAVERLY (SNR/VM) – The community of Villa Marie School for Exceptional Children in Waverly rejoiced once again as one of their members celebrated a special occasion.

Delaney Steinmetz, daughter of Mary Steinmetz of Blessed Sacrament Parish in Lincoln, received her first Communion Oct. 19, fulfilling a long-awaited desire. Msgr. John Perkinton, director of Villa Marie School, celebrated the Mass at St. Patrick Church in Lincoln.

Delaney was joined by her mother and her grandfather, Timothy Fisher.

Several others were present, including the Villa Marie students and staff, Delaney’s godmother Mary Wilson and her daughter Teresa, and some of the Marian Sisters, including Sister Karen Eden, who began preparing Delaney for her first confession and first Communion after her baptism in June 2019. Sister Loretta Happe, teacher at Villa Marie, continued Delaney’s sacramental preparation when Delaney enrolled as a student.

“Delaney worked very hard to prepare for her first confession and first Eucharist,” Sister Loretta said. “Her mother was a great help. Delaney was so happy that her ‘Papa’ was able to be there. She was most excited to receive Jesus.”

Delaney was also invested with the Carmelite Brown Scapular. After the Mass, a luncheon was held in the social hall.
