LINCOLN (SNR) – The Capitol City Ford & Mustang Club donated the funds from their 40th annual All Makes Auto and Truck Show to the Women’s Care Center of Lincoln.

The total donation was $10,600.32, a record for the event.

The Sept. 12 event, held at Southeast Community College, included the help of the Knights of Columbus of St. Peter Parish in Lincoln and the Boy Scout Troop 32. The Knights prepared and served donated pulled pork, burgers, brats and hot dogs, and the Boy Scouts distributed water bottles, with all proceeds going to the charity. There was also a live auction and 50/50 raffle for the charity.

Representatives of all three organizations were in attendance Nov. 3 to present the donation to Sarah Kroner, director of the Women’s Care Center, 5632 S. 48th St., Lincoln. Kroner expressed her appreciation for the donation, the work and support of the organizations, and the strong support of the Lincoln and Lancaster County community for the Women’s Care Center.

For the first 39 years, the auto show was held on the streets of downtown Havelock, and was even known to area car enthusiasts as “The Havelock Show.” Holding this year’s event at a larger venue, the Southeast Community College campus at 8800 “O” St., allowed space for more than 250 displayed vehicles, as well as parking for the thousands of spectators.

The show vehicles spanned a broad variety in 60 classes, with 180 awards presented. The cars and families of five recently deceased members of the Nifty Fifties car club were honored in a featured location. Tim Matthews, museum curator of Speedway Motors Museum of American Speed presented each of the families with an award from Speedway Motors to commemorate the honor.

The Women’s Care Center of Lincoln is one of 33 locations in 12 states, which collectively serve more moms and babies than any other organization. The Lincoln facility has been open for less than a year and already serves more than 200 family clients of moms, dads, and babies from pregnancy to age 5. This includes more than a third of all teenage pregnancies in Lancaster County. They offer free pregnancy tests and as many ultrasounds as the parents want, including photos of the ultrasounds. Diapers, baby food, baby clothing, car seats, and strollers are among the support item provided, and all are funded entirely through donations. The organization also trains and helps parents in raising their babies.

The host club, the Capitol City Ford & Mustang Club was founded in 1965, shortly after the first introduction of the Ford Mustang and many of the founding members are still active in the club. They hosted a Ford and Mustang show June 12 at the Anderson Ford north location and raised more than $1,000 for the Heroes Into Homes organization which provides homes for disabled veterans. In 2019, the “All Makes” show raised funds for St. Gianna Women’s Homes of Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska.
