(SNR) – The Lincoln Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (LDCCW) held their annual pro-life diaper drive in October, setting a goal of 90,000.
The LDCCW is an organization of all Catholic women in the Diocese of Lincoln. Organized in 1932, the LDCCW has undertaken dozens of projects which fulfill the corporal and spiritual works of mercy.
Each October, the organization collects diapers for pro-life organizations around the state, and Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska, which includes St. Gianna’s Women’s Homes.
This year’s drive nearly doubled the set goal, collecting 168,673 diapers for babies in need.
Parishes and schools collected diapers, with some like St. James Elementary in Crete and Bishop Neumann Junior/Senior High in Wahoo holding school-wide challenges. At St. Patrick School in Lincoln, classroom grades challenged their CCD peers to encourage more donations.
Kay Wessel, coordinator of the drive for the LDCCW, said monetary donations were also collected, and converted to diapers for purpose of calculating the total number of diapers collected. Those monetary donations will fill a void throughout the year allowing for the purchase of specific size diapers when those sizes are depleted.
“The success of the October Pro-Life Diaper Drive would not be possible without all of you,” she said, thanking the coordinators in each deanery, diocesan pastors and parish secretaries. “Thanks also to the Southern Nebraska Register and Spirit Catholic Radio for promotions throughout the month of October.”
