LINCOLN (SNR) – The students of Villa Marie School for Exceptional Children in Waverly showcased their talents in a play entitled “The Angels’ First Christmas” Dec. 17 at St. John the Apostle School in Lincoln.

The play was written by Jim Rerucha, Sister Jeanette Rerucha, and senior student Lillia Koenig. Lillia was cast in the leading role as Angel Gabriel, but due to an unexpected illness, she was unable to perform. Para educator Sara Waddle filled in as Gabriel.

Sister Jeanette said the play explores the creation of the angels and of mankind, the fall of mankind, and God’s plan of salvation culminating in the birth of Christ, followed by the crowning of Mary the Queen of Angels. All of this was played out in the realm of Heaven, as seen through the eyes of the angels and the fallen angels.

Villa Marie is a boarding and day school for children ages 6-18 with intellectual disabilities and other neurodiversity. Founded by the late Msgr. James D. Dawson in 1964, students enrolled at the school are educated through personalized instruction by Marian Sisters, teachers and staff. The school is not assigned to a specific parish for support and relies on donations from the community to serve its mission. For more information, see www.villamarieschool.com.
