LINCOLN (SNR/EI) – Completing its third year of operation, The Emmaus Institute for Biblical Studies will offer four new 10-week online and in-person courses and a half-day seminar during the spring semester, Feb. 28 through May 12.
“The Lenten and Easter season is the perfect time for God’s people to deepen our faith and to grow more intimate with our Lord,” says Emmaus president Dr. Vern Steiner. “One way to do that is to enroll in a Scripture study class, where we listen to God speak in his own words and we meet him directly and personally, in ways that inform and transform us as we draw closer to his Son.”
The spring semester will feature a variety of classes, each meeting one evening weekly (6:30 to 8:30 p.m.) for 10 weeks, with a break during Holy Week. Registrations are now open.
Josh Burks and Chad Steiner will teach “The Whole in One, Part 2: A Survey of the New Testament.” The course is described as a fast-paced overview of the entire New Testament, including a framework for understanding each of its 27 books. Hosted at St. Michael Church in Lincoln, this class will meet on Mondays, Feb. 28 through May 9.
“Creation to New Creation: Hebrews–Revelation” is the last leg of a three-year, book-by-book study pilgrimage through the entire Bible. However, there are no prerequisites to attend; those who missed the earlier sections are welcome to join. Taught by Josh Burks and Chad Steiner, this class will meet on Tuesdays, March 1 through May 10. The location is to be determined.
Chad Steiner will teach “A Biblical Journey Through Lent and Easter” as an in-depth exposition of the upcoming Sunday Mass readings through the Lent and Easter season, including their selection, arrangement, and content. This class will be held Wednesdays, March 2 through May 11, at the John XXIII Diocesan Center in Lincoln.
“The Ten Commandments: God’s Blueprint for Life, Love, and Liberty” will dive deeply into one of the “Four Pillars” of the Catholic faith, exploring the wonder and magnitude of God’s blueprint for protecting life, promoting love, and preserving true liberty. Vern Steiner will teach this class on Thursdays, March 3 through May 12, at St. Peter Church in Lincoln.
While all the classes will be offered in person in Lincoln, the first three will include online options for people to view at their own pace and location. In-person registrants receive free access to the online option in the event they cannot attend every class. Full course descriptions and registration details are available at www.emmausinstitute.net.
In addition to the spring courses, Emmaus will offer a half-day seminar Saturday, April 9, on the theme “A Biblical Journey Through Holy Week,” where participants will ponder the mysteries of the Triduum through the biblical portrayal of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. Hosted at St. Joseph Church in Lincoln, the event will begin at 9 a.m. (participants are encouraged to attend St. Joseph’s regular 8:15 a.m. Mass), and will conclude at 1 p.m., with a question-and-answer session during lunch. Refreshments, coffee, and a light meal, all catered by Harbor Coffeehouse, are included in the $20 registration fee. Seminar registration is required by April 7 at www.emmausinstitute.net.
