LINCOLN (SNR) – Father William A. Kalin, a retired priest of the Diocese of Lincoln, died Feb. 23. He was 88.

Bishop James Conley celebrated a funeral Mass March 3 in the Cathedral of the Risen Christ in Lincoln with priests of the diocese concelebrating.

Burial was in Calvary Cemetery. Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Father Kalin was born in Lincoln and attended St. Mary School from first through the 12th grade. 

He was ordained for the Diocese of Lincoln in 1959 by Bishop James Casey. He served at Holy Trinity Parish in Brainard, Ss. Peter and Paul in Falls City, Sacred Heart in Lincoln, Assumption in Dwight, St. Joseph in Paul, and St. Joseph in York. He taught at Pius X High School in Lincoln and Lourdes Central in Nebraska City. He was in charge of the Spanish-speaking apostolate in the Lincoln Diocese and in retirement, he assisted the Cathedral in Grand Island with Spanish-speaking ministry.

During his active priesthood, Father Kalin spent two terms, totaling 20 years, serving the diocesan mission in Venezuela, 10 years in Oregon with Bishop Robert Vasa, a priest of the Diocese of Lincoln. He retired in 2008 and moved to Bonacum House in Lincoln.

He is survived by one sister and nieces and nephews.
