Invitation issued to ‘the women in the pews’

HOLDREGE (SNR) – The 63rd biennial convention of the Lincoln Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (LDCCW) will be held in Holdrege April 22 and 23.

“I would like to take this opportunity to invite the women of the Lincoln Diocese to attend the LDCCW convention,” said president Kathy Rowell. “The women in the pews are the ones who do the work of the LDCCW through their deanery and parish. They are the ones who spend time at funerals, nursing homes, food pantries, taking meals to needy families and so much more.

“The women in the pews,” she continued, “carry out the mission of performing the Works of Mercy to the people God puts in their path. It is time to celebrate your successes of the past two years.”

The event begins with a pre-convention banquet Friday, April 22 at The Balcony in Loomis. Social time begins at 6 p.m., followed by the dinner, speaker Father Dale Allder and entertainment. Pre-registration is required.

The convention will be held Saturday, April 23 at All Saints Catholic Parish Hall in Holdrege. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Highlights of the day include speaker Angela Copenhaver of We Teach Think, the installation of officers, Mass with Bishop James Conley, a short business meeting, a summary of the past two years’ accomplishments and presentation of the burse funds for seminarians and the Bishop’s Project to help purchase display cases for historical items relating to the Lincoln Diocese.

As president, Rowell, a member of All Saints Parish in Holdrege, chose “Mercy is Love’s Response to Suffering” as the theme for her two-year term, as well as for the convention. In an effort to address suffering with love, donations will be made to: President’s Project: CSS of Hastings and St. Gianna’s West; Our Lady of Good Counsel Retreat House to help cover costs of retreatants who need financial assistance; and the Hispanic Ministry West for bibles and educational materials.

Registration for the two-day convention is due by April 8. Those attending board meetings will pay $5 for the Friday noon meal. Those attending the Friday evening pre-convention banquet pay $30 and those attending the convention Saturday pay $25.
